UK POWER NETWORKS UPCOMING PROJECT
From 12 August for 44 weeks
Dear Clerk of the Parish
I write to you from UK Power Networks and we are responsible for maintaining the electrical network in your area. I would like to notify you of an electricity infrastructure project that we will be undergoing within your Parish. The aim of the project is to facilitate an increase in electrical demand whilst improving the resilience of the network for the future.
These works will be taking place on the substation off Sapiston Road, Honington (Map attached) starting 12 August 2024. In partnership with our contractor, UKPNS, we will be replacing the transformers on the substation as they have reached the end of their economic life. All works will be completed within the substation, however local residents may see an increase in our works traffic entering and exiting the site. Our work should have no impact on the electricity supply for residents or businesses. Works are expected to last for 44 weeks.
In preparation for these works, we have consulted neighbouring landowners who are aware of the upcoming works and signage will be provided on approach to the site. Whilst attending the site, it was apparent that these works were taking place next to a popular walking route and I’d like to make you aware of the project should any residents of your Parish enquire as to the nature of the works.
If you would like to discuss more about our work and this project, please do feel free to contact myself.
Thank you for your time.

Honington children participate in unveiling of village sign
10th July - By Sophie Skyring - AI - Assisted Reporter
Honington village unveiled its new sign on Monday with pupils from Honington CEVC Primary School playing a crucial role.
The youngsters, who form part of the school council, said it was "exciting and important" to be a part of the ceremony.
The new sign, intended to give special recognition to key landmarks in the area, was revealed to villagers, school personnel and parish members.
Reverend Sally Fodgen marked the event with a special talk about the sign, followed by a prayer to bless the village.
The sign, a rainbow of colour representing all the important places and main features of their community, includes the school, church, wild swans in the river by the bridge, a farmer driving a tractor. a buccaneer airplane and a reference to the RAF station.
The robust metal replacement is a timely upgrade from the original wooden sign, created by Mervyn Thurlow in 1993, and provides a warm welcome to all visiting Honington, showing everyone what there is to see.

NOTE - temporary 20mph speed limits in the villages of:
Walsham Le Willows, Stowlangtoft, Hunston and Badwell Ash
For your awareness, we are planning to carry out the replacement of a highway bridge along the A1088, Stowlangtoft.
The works are programmed to commence on Monday 22 July 2024 and will continue until Friday 20 December 2024. During this time, the road will be closed to ensure the safety of highway users and our operatives.
For the duration of the closure, traffic will be diverted via A1088, A14, A143 and vice versa.
This is a significant project which will secure the longevity of the structure, ensuring that it is safer for all highway users.
Due to the extent of the closure, and to reduce the impact on surrounding villages, additional actions are being taken in advance of and throughout works, as follows,
Preparation of roads near to closure
Consultations have taken place with representatives from the local community, who have expressed concerns regarding local roads being used to bypass the closure, without using the official diversion route. Several major routes have been highlighted.
In order to prepare these routes for a higher volume of traffic, reactive repair and vegetation works and will be carried out prior to commencement of the closure. Suffolk Highways will inspect these routes shortly, assess the extent of required repairs and schedule these to be carried out. The routes in question can be found in ATTACHMENT A and are marked in red.
Implementation of temporary speed limits
In addition to the above, temporary advisory speed limits will be implemented on several of these routes, for the safety of local residents and as a traffic calming measure. Advisory limits can be found in ATTACHMENT A and are marked in light blue.
Extents of signage
A plan showing the diversion route for these works, along with signage which will be placed along the route, is attached to this email (ATTACHMENT B).
In addition to this, significant signage will be placed on local routes. The locations of this signage can be found in ATTACHMENT C – please note that the sign type is not included in this document and can be found in ATTACHMENT C1.
Queries regarding works
Recognising the potential volume of queries we may receive regarding these works, a dedicated email address has been set up for residents to contact us on. If you have any questions or concerns, please email [email protected] and we will respond as quickly as possible. Please also circulate these details within your division or parish to ensure as many people as possible are aware of how best to contact us.
As we plan roadworks in advance, we schedule extra days to allow for bad weather or other delays beyond our control. If we need to make major changes to our work dates, we will update the information signs on site and our social media channels accordingly.
When we close the road and put a diversion in place, the route needs to be accessible to vehicles of all shapes and sizes. We make our diversions as clear as possible by placing appropriate signing along the route. The latest updates on our works can be found on the One.Network website.
There may be times that essential emergency works are required to take place on the highway network without advanced notice – you can follow Suffolk Highways on Twitter for the latest emergency roadwork updates.
Please use any contacts within your division or parish to circulate this notification.
If you have any queries on the above, please contact us on 0345 606 6171.
