Subject: Community Emergency Rest Centre Training
Good afternoon
I hope this message finds you well.
My name is Tarik Foley, and I am an Emergency Planning Officer with the Suffolk Joint Emergency Planning Unit (JEPU), primarily covering the West Suffolk Council area. I am reaching out to you as the contact we have on record for your town or parish.
Under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, Local Authorities have a statutory duty to provide shelter for individuals who may be temporarily displaced due to an emergency. To fulfil this responsibility, we may establish a Rest Centre—typically staffed by trained volunteers from West Suffolk Council. However, response times can occasionally be affected by staff availability and location.
To enhance our preparedness and community resilience, we also offer free training sessions to local community groups interested in supporting emergency response efforts within their town, parish, or neighbourhood. These sessions last approximately three hours and are designed to equip volunteers with the knowledge and confidence to assist in Rest Centre operations.
This year, we are hosting two Community Rest Centre training events aimed at larger groups, and we would be delighted to welcome attendees from your community:
Although the sessions are free of charge, booking is required via the links above. To ensure fair access across communities, we kindly ask that attendance be limited to a maximum of four participants per area.
Please feel free to share this invitation within your community.
If you have any questions or would like further information around emergency planning, you are welcome to contact me directly.
Thank you for your continued support in strengthening our local emergency preparedness.
Warm Regards
Tarik Foley, Emergency Planning Officer - 01284 758 461 or [email protected].
I am pleased to offer another date of training at Long Melford Village Hall on Wednesday 26th November as the other dates the session will run from 6pm and last approximately 3 hours.

UK POWER NETWORKS PROJECT
UPDATE 27 MARCH 2025
The removal of the second transformer, T1, at Honington is scheduled for the week commencing 31st March 2025,
with the transformer set to leave the site on a flatbed lorry on 4th April.
Starting the following week, civil engineers will be on-site to construct two new transformer foundations throughout April.
This will involve the movement of grab lorries, water tankers, and cement lorries in and out of Honington.
The delivery of two new transformers to Honington Primary Substation is planned for the week of 22nd May 2025
Once delivered, electrical works will commence to connect the transformers and restore Honington Primary to the grid.
To ensure public safety during this period, we have implemented traffic control measures for the track
off Sapiston Road leading to the work area. A banksman will always be present during delivery and
movement of these lorries, to direct traffic and safeguard pedestrians using the track.
