heritage walk - walk 1

Walk 1
Circuit round Hilly Close to Mill Road with views across water meadows

Cross the road in front of the Village Hall turning left.  Almost immediately turn right onto the road leading to Hilly Close.  Follow surfaced road for 1/3 mile until you see the Old Rectory on the left.  (A)  Turn right here through gate and across the field to a second gate.  Follow wall round to the river footbridge, cross this and follow roadway up to the start of Mill road.  Go straight ahead up the road to Honington Church where you turn right, (B).  Follow road keeping right, (C) cross river back to Village Hall.

Variations~:
From the Old Rectory, (A) continue straight ahead to St Andrew's Church then retrace steps to field gate, (A).
** Clay Lane: original "Coffin Walk" to Sapiston Church
(adds just over 1/2 mile to walk A)

Turn left from Village Hall follow road keeping right and crossing the road to Hilly Close.  After Bloomfield Close continue for a short distance after the footpath ends.  Turn right at footpath sign and follow track through a gap in the hedge.  take the path through bushes, (there is a gap at the top of the incline with a seat giving views across Honington Village), until you emerge and walk down the field side to the Old Rectory on your left.  Turn left to A then follow Walk 1.
*** Allotment Field and Woodland Area
(adds a little!)
After leaving Honington Church turning right, (B), look for a field gate on right between the houses.  Enter and walk diagonally across the open field to a gap in the hedge and Pumping Station.  Turn right along track to river where turning left will take you along the riverbank to point C.
