SEPTEMBER
Very little to report this month  … so many birds that migrate annually have now left and a birders life is only lifted by a few records of rare vagrant species like Wrynecks, Hoopoes and the odd Curlew Sandpiper passing through to rest and feed before heading off to warmer climates for the winter. Hopefully we will soon start to witness the amazing sight of Starling murmuration … always an Autumn wonder.  Locally, Lackford Lakes is a good place to watch these magical displays.

Whilst the extraordinary abundance of fruit this year is welcome .. all kinds of nuts are bountiful. Not for eating but another sort of “nut” is the Oak acorn and Horse Chestnut conkers are in their thousands and making my ride - on mowing a hazardous event.  An expert on the morning radio today described the event as a Masting Year.  As I navigate the trees and experience a bombardment from massive clumps of both raining on my head I might have another name to use!!

I have still been seeing some Large White and Red Admiral butterflies in the first days of September but that is about it.

My sincere apologies for the absence of photographs but my desktop computer is away with a specialist company to upgrade the system with pre- loaded a Windows 11 platform.  The Silicon Valley geeks are so clever ... the watch words are “Planned Obsolescence “... to those fellow old fashioned computer users … have you noticed your Windows 10 is getter slower by the day?
It will stop any update support tweaks on October 14th .. be warned!!
