NEWS FROM EUSTON FARM
Hello from all at the Estate.
Farming has got off to a slow start due to the constant wet weather. Still, we must adapt and change to fight these conditions as time waits for no man! The drilling date for sugar beet is still in our sights so we must try and be ready for mid-March.
Autumn sown crops have enjoyed the generally mild winter and the wet weather has been ok with them but of course they have a limit.
Irrigation maintenance has been busy since Christmas repairing broken taps and replacing a 100-metre length of pipe that is 325mm in diameter which forms our main pressure pipe from the Reservoir.
We have been tree planting for the past week or so replacing the 500 odd spruce trees that got infected by the IPs Beetle last summer.
I had a break for 2 months over Christmas, so I'd like to thank the team at Euston for taking the helm while I made a recovery from hospital. See you all in a month or so. Matthew

HONINGTON & SAPISTON W.I.
February saw us welcome the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) for a demonstration and refresher on providing the very important skill of CPR and basic first aid.
Members were walked through how to look out for cardiac arrest and how to calmly use a defibrillator and perform CPR if needed. We learnt that a single helicopter trip for the EAAA is around £4250, with an average of 5 call outs a day! They rely heavily on donations from the public to continue running and saving lives.
After the demonstration, each member then performed CPR on a Resusci Annie (at the expense of our knees!) and also had the chance to use a model defibrillator. We are now up-to-date with our first aid skills and hope to never need to use them!
If you fancy coming along to one of our meetings, please email [email protected], we have a range of speakers each year and would love to see you.
