Damian J E Kershaw
Surgeon Lieutenant
Royal Navy, Institute of Naval Medicine

Deeply loved son of Jackie and Steve and dear brother of Simon

Died: 15 May 2001
Age: 28
On Monday 1 May 2001, Dr Kershaw, a surgeon lieutenant with the Royal Navy and junior anaesthetist at the Southampton General Hospital collapsed as he left his sports centre in Hampshire and died shortly after.

He qualified at the London Hospital Medical College and joined the Royal Navy as a medical cadet in 1995. He then trained at the Institute of Naval Medicine at Alverstoke, Gosport, and HMS Neptune at Helensburgh, Scotland.

Dr Kershaw joined HMS Vanguard as medical officer and did further specialist training in anaesthetics.

A naval colleague said: "His death is a tragic loss to the naval medical service of a young, talented, respected junior medical and naval officer who had a zest for life and a passion for his vocation. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him."
