HONINGTON AND SAPISTON PARISH NEWSLETTER
JUNE 2024
PARISH COUNCIL
At the recent Annual Parish Council Meeting, Cllr Williams was re-elected as Chair with Cllr Read remaining as Vice-Chair.
Grants were distributed to the Village Hall, Honington Church for the upkeep of the Churchyard and for the Fabric Fund.
Work has begun on alleviating the flooding experienced in Sapiston and it is hoped this month will see further work carried out.
Cllrs were thankful to PC Reeves for her help and guidance with the issue of parking around Willow Green and are pleased to see the improvement in the area making it safer for many.
UK Power Networks plan to carry out work around the Sapiston Substation. This shouldn't affect electricity supplies but we may be aware of more works traffic at the end of June/beginning of July.
It is proposed that once the A14 is fully re-opened work will commence on repairing the bridge along the A1088 at Stowlangtoft. The road will be closed for 3 months and diversions will be in place. It is expected to begin early July.
Families Day at the RAF is to take place on the 25th July.
Many thanks were expressed to Harriet van der Lande for revamping the website. Thanks were also given to those organisations who had submitted reports for the Annual Parish Meeting.
The next meeting will take place on 8th July at 7pm in the Village Hall.

HONINGTON CEVCP SCHOOL
We have had a busy few weeks in school! Each class held Easter assemblies for parent and carers and we also invited them in to take part in experiments during Science Week. We have had visits from the Fire Brigade and the Police – for education purposes! and celebrated Military Child Day with pupils wearing something purple. This week our Year 6 Class took their SATs exams - we are all so proud of them for their hard work and commitment to learning. Some of our Year 5 class will be taking part in a Bikeability Course so you may see them cycling about the village in their hi-viz jackets! We’ve had a school disco which was organised by the Friends of Honington, and they are also planning and arranging our Summer Fair which will be held on the school field on Saturday 29 June 1 – 4 pm. Everyone is welcome!!
CHURCH NEWS
We must thank Matthew Hawthorne for taking us on the Tractor Trailer ride for our first informal service for Rogation Sunday. We were able to bless the crops, pigs, cattle, and finally the farmer, while we were on the Euston Estate, and sang a few hymns along the way. Our next informal service will take place in Honington Church at 3.30pm on 2nd June, where you are asked to bring along a jam jar with contents from the hedgerows. The winners of the Monthly Money Draw in May were Benjamin and Maria Cusworth, Sally and Tim Fogden and Sharon Croucher. Our Coffee Morning will be on 4th June at 10.30am. Do come along to enjoy coffee and cake. There are also books and bric-a-brac for sale and a draw to join in. Both Claire Smith and Marion Cusworth have agreed to be Church Wardens for another year and we welcome two new members onto the PCC. In July we will be having a produce stall at the Village Summer Fair and would be grateful for any donations of cakes, jams or chutneys etc. to help swell the funds. Please, is there anyone who could help by coming on the church cleaning rota, or if you enjoy flower arranging, to be on the flower rota? If so, please contact Christine Congdon on 01359 063480. (You would probably be asked to take part once every two months.) Marion Cusworth
