HONINGTON AND SAPISTON PARISH NEWSLETTER
JANUARY 2025
PARISH COUNCIL
The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place on Monday 13th January 2025 at 7pm in the Village Hall.
Councillors and the Clerk wish you all a prosperous and healthy 2025.
VILLAGE HALL
On behalf of Honington & Sapiston Village Hall committee I would like to take this opportunity in wishing you all a Happy New Year. On typing this insert I am delighted to say that the hall is in a much stronger position financially than it was this time last year. A huge thank you to Len Newman (Chair) for his hard work with the boiler which saved the hall ££’s. Also, to all those who fundraised during 2024 - truly amazing monies raised - thank you all for your hard work, it is truly appreciated.
As we move into 2025 the hall bookings are looking good, there are a few slots for anyone interested in starting up weekly/monthly classes or events. Please let me know and please pass on this information to those who you know that may be interested.
If I may, I must just point out that as a volunteer at the hall it is very frustrating for me to receive messages via Facebook, Whatsapp, Text etc at all hours of the day!! Please email me any queries re bookings you have made at [email protected] and if you are interested in making a booking please visit the website www.hsvh.org.uk and complete a booking enquiry/booking form and I will take it from there - 'no booking form no booking’.
There is no community lunch or supper in January due to my work commitments. However, the first community lunch will be on Thursday 6th February not the 2nd Thursday as per usual. I will be serving bangers & mash or chicken casserole followed by fruit crumble including tea and coffee for £8.00. Please call 01359 789195 or email me [email protected] on or before 11.00 on Friday 31st January.
CHURCH NEWS
Thank you to everyone who helped to decorate our parish church for Christmas. Also, thanks to those who came to the Carols by Torchlight.
In December, the Monthly Money Draw winners were; Mary and Terry Taylor, Julia Roberts and Molly and Albert Lambert.
We will be holding Soup and Cheese Lunches in January, February and March in place of the Coffee Mornings, from 12.30 for 1pm in the Village Hall on the 1st Tuesday each month.
A date for your diaries …. Saturday 22nd February at 7pm we will be holding a BEETLE DRIVE with a Ploughman’s served halfway through. Please book your tickets from Christine Congdon 01359 269779 or Claire Smith 01359 269658.
The PCC are asking if there is anyone who would like to join a small group of fund raisers with ideas and help to arrange events where the profits will go to the ongoing expenses for the upkeep of our village church. It is an historical building in the very centre of Honington, as well as a place of worship which needs everyone’s support. Please contact Marion or Claire if you are interested.
We wish everyone a very Happy and Healthy New Year
HONINGTON & SAPISTON W.I.
This meeting was our Christmas Quiz & Fizz party and it was a lovely, enjoyable evening. The hall was beautifully decorated and very Christmassy. Everyone had dressed up and enjoyed a drink of fizz (alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties were available!) and time to chat and look at the first quiz. The food this year was all provided by members rather than caterers, and there was a fantastic array of different canapés and desserts. We took part in a second quiz, with the winning table awarded a box of chocolates each.
The winners of the competitions for 2024 were announced: in 1st place, Anne W with 35 points, 2nd place went to Lucy W with 30 points, and Doreen A took 3rd place with 28 points. Well done to everyone who has entered a competition this year.
Instead of Secret Santa, donations of food were made to Gatehouse.
Joanne proposed a vote of thanks to Val and her team of organisers for the party, which was a lovely, informal event, much enjoyed by everyone.
We next meet on Tuesday 14th January when we will be hearing from Adrian Hoyle about the war graves in Honington churchyard.
If you would like to try a WI meeting (free of charge!) do just come along - or contact Tricia tel. 268442 or email honing- [email protected] to find out more
CAMERA CLUB
We finished our photographic year with some excellent images for our two tasks "Fungi" and "Macro”. The evening was very relaxed helped along by plentiful supplies of mince pies and mulled wine!
Our year has been very productive indeed with an increased membership, good lectures and ever improving images recorded by everyone. Many thanks to all who helped and contributed images during 2024.
The 2025 programme has yet to be finalised, but if anyone is interested in coming along then we look forward to seeing you on January 21st at 7 pm in the village hall. Email [email protected] for further information.
HONINGTON CEVCP SCHOOL
Thank you to all who came and supported our Christmas Fair on 6 December - we raised an amazing £1200!! We are ex- tremely grateful to the Friends of Honington School for their tireless efforts to raise money for the school.
This week we are performing our Christmas plays to parents and carers - our younger pupils are performing The Fleece Force and our older children The Magical Christmas Jigsaw. The children have worked extremely hard to learn their words and songs.
We would like to wish the residents of Honington and Sapiston a Happy & Healthy New Year.
