heritage walks
At the heart of these walks you will find the Blackbourne Tree Group's woodland. Founded in 2008 a project protecting our natural heritage for future generations to enjoy. Both Walks start from Honington & Sapiston Village Hall, Bardwell Road, Sapiston IP31 1RU.
The Villages
Honington and Sapiston are two villages separated by the River Blackbourn. It was here that the pastoral poet Robert Bloomfield lived and worked.
These walks take you through some of the beautiful countryside about which he wrote. His poem 'The Farmers Boy' gives a vivid description of rural life in the late 18th century. The descendants of his patron, the Duke of Grafton, still reside at nearby Euston Hall and own much of the land over which these walks pass.
There are two churches in the parishes and, although Sapiston Church is redundant, occasional services are still held there.
Please keep all dogs on a lead when crossing fields, as many may contain sheep and remember to shut all the gates behind you.
If you wish to park at the Village Hall, please contact Ian at [email protected] to ensure there is a space available.
