On 1 November 1941 Plt Off Deck took off from RAF Duxford on a test flight in Typhoon Mk Ia, R7592. He had previously flown a total of 12 hrs 20 mins in this type of plane, it was one of the first five Typhoon Mk Ia fighters delivered to 56(Punjab) Sqn which was to be the first Sqn to convert to this new aircraft.
They crashed at Redham Hall, near East Harling minutes after take off - later investigation concluded that the most probable cause of the accident was due to the loss of consciousness of the pilot, due to Carbon Monoxide poisoning. His two brothers, also in the RAF, were both KiA Plt Off Harold Frederick Deck, died 27 July 1942 and Flt Lt Charles George Frederick Deck, died 19 April 1945 |
