HONINGTON AND SAPISTON PARISH NEWSLETTER
APRIL 2025
PARISH COUNCIL
Many thanks to all those who helped with our annual litter pick. Over 20 bags of litter were collected between the 2 villages, so a wonderful effort.
At our recent meeting, concerns were raised about inconsiderate parking and 3 areas have been reported to the Police who have carried out a number of visits to the area. Please be mindful of parking so we do not obstruct junctions or pavements making life difficult for other drivers and pedestrians.
A consultation on the West Suffolk Local Plan - Main Modifications has begun and runs until April 15th. This is the last opportunity to express your views. Proposals include 10 homes for land south of Bardwell Road, Sapiston and for 12 homes for land north of Troston Road, Honington. The Parish Council proposed that 5 homes would be more suitable for each site. Further details and comments can be submitted at westsuffolk.inconsult.uk/system/register
Honington and Sapiston Parish Meeting will take place on May 12th at 7pm to be followed by the Annual Parish Council Meeting. Both to take place in the Village Hall. Everyone welcome.
ST. GEORGE’S DAY DRAW
Tickets will be arriving though your door for this year’s St George’s Day Draw on Wednesday 23rd. The village hall committee would really appreciate it if you took part, and also sold tickets to your friends and family. All proceeds go to help with the upkeep of the hall. Tickets can be returned to any of the committee or dropped off in the hall’s letter box. Good Luck. Sue Jay

Community BBQ - Friday June 27th TBA
Village Picnic – Sunday, September 7th in field - tickets available in June Christmas Meal – Saturday, November 29th – tickets available in September
Also, further to some feedback from a committee member that the hall should be more available to the younger members of the villages, it was agreed that some of the younger mums may want to take the opportunity of putting together a team who could facilitate this, working with the committee - re dates etc.

BLACKBOURNE TREE GROUP
We had an excellent path clearing day in March, three fallen trees removed and the footpath near the Bridge exposed. Our next meeting will be earlier at 8.30am on Saturday 12th, not 5th. Our AGM is at 7pm on 17th April followed by Fish Pie (thanks to Ian). Please send items for discussion to Sally, [email protected]. Partners most welcome, please let me know if you can join us, if you have not already done so. GS
CAMERA CLUB
March was a very productive and enjoyable month with our annual social evening followed by our normal monthly meeting where we were given a talk by Phil Morley, a professional freelance photographer. We covered a broad range of his work from food photography through to his darkroom work and UK wide tours. Our April 15th meeting has two tasks "Black and White " and "Any Colour/s" . We aim for a 7pm start at the village hall and anyone interested in coming along for the evening is most welcome to see what images are presented. Call Howard 01359 268763 with any questions.
HONINGTON & SAPISTON W.I.
This month we were joined by Jude Law who is a volunteer at Fullers Mill Garden. Jude shared the history of Fullers Mill along with a detailed walk through the layout of the garden and provided her extensive knowledge of the unique plants, trees and shrubs the late Bernard Tickner chose to include. Jude explained how the garden is ever evolving and educated us on the importance of placement when it comes to plants thriving. We are all looking forward to visiting in the near future. Our competition was a flower arrangement in a jam jar, we had many beautiful entries, proving hard to choose a winner! If you would like to come down and join in please do come along or contact Tricia tel. 268442 or email honing- tonandsapistonwi@gmail.com to find out more.
VILLAGE SHOW
The village show team has decided to step down from running the show. Our numbers have decreased over the years and we feel that now is the right time for a new group of people to take on the organisation of the show – either in its current format or maybe incorporating new ideas. The team have run the show since 2017 and have raised in excess of £3250 for the village hall and other local causes, of which we are all very proud. If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact me ([email protected]). We are very happy to share any help or advice if needed.
PRODUCE STALL FAKENHAM MAGNA
On Saturday 12th April there will be a produce stall outside St Peter’s Church from 10.30 am to 12 noon. We will be selling cakes, jams and preserves and there will also be a variety of plants at very reasonable prices. We will also have items of Bric-a Brac and things for upcycling
Do come early as we sometimes sell out before noon!
