HONINGTON AND SAPISTON PARISH NEWSLETTER
APRIL 2024
PARISH COUNCIL
Many thanks to all those who joined us for our annual Litter Pick. It was good to see so many new and old faces especially the little ones and Jan's little army of helpers! Between us we collected 24 sacks of rubbish. If anyone wishes to litter pick at other times, Hi Vis jackets, litter pickers, a trolley and black bags are available.
VILLAGE HALL
By now most of you should have received an envelope containing draw tickets. We are holding a St George’s Day draw on 23 April as a fundraiser for the Hall. If you are able to buy the tickets yourself, or sell to friends and family, this would be a great help in our fundraising efforts. Please return tickets to the Hall or to Sue Jay at Bloomfield Farmhouse, Mill Road Honington. If you would like more, or haven’t had them put through your door, they are available at the Hall or from Sue. Good Luck and thank you for your support. Sue Jay
The Village Hall Committee would like to thank all those who pledged a monthly contribution or gave a donation for their generous support of the hall. We have managed to find several ways to reduce our energy costs, which will help avoid the “winter crisis” in future. We have obtained a grant via West Suffolk Council to develop the field behind the Hall which we rent from Euston Estates. This money can only be spent on outside groundwork and will enable us to get full use of the area. Linda Howe
I hope everyone had a good Easter. As many will be aware the Honington & Sapiston Village Hall website is being updated by Harriet van der Lande and is more user friendly and brighter. What an amazing achievement !!! Many congratulations to Molly and Albert Lambert who recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
CAMERA CLUB
In March our meeting was a talk, with photos of landscape from Justin Minns. This month our meeting will be on Tuesday, 16 April starting at 7pm in the village hall where we will have 2 subjects to interpret and enter, Technology and Food. Some use super-duper cameras and others use their mobile phones. Howard is there to give us help and advice on how to take a good photograph. So do come and join us for a fun and friendly evening.
CHURCH NEWS
We were all shocked and saddened with the news of the sudden death of Gill Farrow, a dear friend to so many people in our villages and a very loyal member of our church over so many years. We are also sad to learn that Helen Bedford’s dad died last month. May they both rest in peace. In April we will be going back to holding a Coffee Morning on the first Tuesday of each month, so we hope to see you on Tuesday, 2 April in the village hall at 10.30am. Last month when we had the Monthly Money Draw the lucky winners were Ian PP, Nettie Mendez and Albert and Molly, so congratulations. In May, on the 1st Sunday of the month we are going to be holding an extra service with a difference at 3.30 in the afternoon, this follows from a discussion held when everyone in the village was invited to let us know what type of service they would like held in the future. Please make a note of the date, 5th May, to come and join us. Marion Cusworth
SUSAN UNWIN
Many of you in Honington and Sapiston will remember my dear Sue who lived with me at Manor Farm House for 5 years before we moved to North Norfolk. Sadly, I need to inform villagers that Sue passed away on 15 February. I am devastated of course. She became ill last year but her death was unexpected. Laurence Staig
BLACKBOURNE TREE GROUP
March’s Work Day was rained off and we hope for better weather on 13 April. We meet at 9am. Please let me know if you can join us. [email protected]
1ST HONINGTON (RAF) SCOUT GROUP
March has been another busy month. Four Beavers joined the village litter pick, helping to make the village more attractive for people and animals. We have been meeting some millipedes, bearded dragons and geckos. We've had our Beavers got talent (BGT) where we had a comedian win! We've learnt about Beavers in other countries and enjoyed some Easter fun! Cubs have been making some lovely crafts for their Mums, they had a games night, made some lovely Easter crafts and celebrated the festival of holi. Scouts have been using their paracord skills to create a mother's day present, been working on their air activities 2 badge, learnt how to pack a rucksack, and enjoyed a games night. Jan Neary [email protected]
HONINGTON CEVCP SCHOOL
We have been busy celebrating Numbers Day, World Book Day and Red Nose Day. We have held parents’ evenings and also invited parents in to take part in experiments with their children to coincide with Science Week. Sports clubs on offer this half term are Football, Dodgeball and Multi-skills and some of budding basketballers took part in an inter-school com- petition at Beyton.
We recently had our SIAMS (church school) inspection and the report has now been finalised and published. It is an amazing report and we are delighted with how well the Inspector understood the strengths and vision of our community and what makes our school so special. The inspector said "Pupils, staff and governors live out the Christian vision in every aspect of school life. It is the universal motivating force behind everyone's shared commitment to high aspiration for them- selves and for each other". Summer Term begins on Friday, 15 April.
VILLAGE SHOW
This year's village show will be on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 August. We hope to deliver flyers containing all the information about the various classes sometime in April. The competitions are open to all residents of Honington and Sapiston as well as non-residents who regularly use the village hall. If anyone has any suggestions of ways to improve the show please contact me by e-mail. Thank you. Carol King: [email protected]

The next meeting of the Association, which all patients registered with the surgery are invited, is scheduled for 1400 on the 8th of May. Please let me know if you wish to attend: [email protected]
